Project001: Year of the Rabbit (Photoshop)

year-of-the-rabbit

Sticking to my creative goals, I am experimenting and playing 3 times a week to stretch myself as a creative.  Here, I broke out my grunge brushes, which I just love, but I created a brush from my own photograph for the rabbit.  If anyone would be interested in the brush, I would be happy to upload it—just ask.

Earlier versions had “YEAR OF THE RABBIT” text on it as well, but near the end I decided to dump it.  They say that a piece is done when there’s nothing left to take away, and that was certainly something I experienced as I hammered out the final version.

On Roundbottom

What is the resolution of your desktop?  800x600? 1024x768? 1280x1024? 1920x1200?  Or something else?  I am trying to determine in which resolutions to make Dr. Roundbottom desktop images available.

I just finished a new image for an upcoming piece which I believe turned out quite well.  Back to some macro work on that.

I still need to write Monday’s post.  I know what happens. I just haven’t written it out yet in Roundbottom’s style.  And we’re hoping to have the first podcast up as next week’s upload.  I am super pleased with the work Nate, my sound guy, has done on it so far.  I have a script and we will be laying down voice tracks soon.  Yes indeed, you will soon get to hear what Roundbottom and Miss Watkins sound like!

On a less happy note, the readership numbers for Roundbottom have been pretty terrible. I put a tremendous, massive amount of effort into the site and fewer than 100 people are checking it out. I’ll probably keep doing it so long as I find it interesting, but I have no illusions about much of anyone liking the project.  Those of you who do read it, I thank you.

I am holding out on you. I admit it. The best images from the shoot are going to take some post work to bring up to the level for the Roundbottom storyline, and I think I won’t reveal them until they go live as part of a story. That way you folks will still have something exciting to see… There are some pretty damned good outtakes here though. Like this one. I don’t play with color much because of the Roundbottom sepia thing, but sometimes, I just have to make an image like this one, especially when Michelle has such great tattoos. When I have time, I’m going to write a postmortem of the shoot, examining it for ways that I can improve in the future.

This is a Dr. Roundbottom image that I am working on for a new storyline over at the Clockpunk website. I haven’t quite worked out all the details of the story, but this character here will certainly end up being an antagonist. I’m meeting with a model in an hour that we are costuming to shoot for this set of stories. She’s got a really cool look. I bought a couple of 15 pound pipe wrenches that are period for this shoot, to give you a hint of what’s going on in this one. Here’s the photo. Note that you can click on the photo to enlarge it without leaving the site.
