My week of training is quickly wrapping up. I’ll be headed for the airport here shortly. It’s been a pretty wild ride, and I’m excited about the opportunities with the new employer.

Tall grass has the kind of calming effect on me that ocean waves have on coastal people. I associate it with tranquility.
It’s kind of surprising how many bugs I find in flowers eating pollen that aren’t bees. And they always seem kind of slow and blissed out. Does pollen get bugs high? Is that even possible?

The new camera is performing satisfactorily. I’ve become obsessed with sharpness lately. The first round of pictures I took were overwhelmingly out of focus and it left me really confused. The camera has image stabilization, so it should take sharper pictures than before, yes? I think the new focusing system was to blame though. It has 11 focusing points instead of the old three point system and that takes some getting used to. I’m using my tripod pretty heavily now and it’s helping. Also, the two second delay timer. This thing just seems super sensitive to shake from pressing the shutter.
I really like how this dragonfly photo turned out, although I probably should have went portrait in the framing.
I had heard horror stories as a kid about the size of slugs in Oregon. The climate is just right up there for them. I’d seen slugs of the thumb-sized variety before. But I had never seen a six inch long monstrosity until Multnomah Falls.
By the way, I speak invertebrate, and here he is saying, “IF I WERE 1000% BIGGER, I WOULD DEVOUR YOUR WORLD AND EVERYTHING IN IT!”
Slugs are all talk, though. Nothing to worry about.
