Well said. For someone like myself who's just starting out in the writing game, this is the kind of advice that's practical and helpful. Your comments about Twitter were spot on, too. Even though I'm very new to Twitter, I've noticed exactly what you describe. Some folks there seem to exist merely to recycle marketing messages or auto-publish RSS news. I'm looking forward to more of your posts and will be checking back.

A little of both, as far as marketing and PR. I don't distinguish between the two very well, as it's always seemed to me that PR is just a subcategory of marketing. Someone once told me that PR you get for free and marketing you pay for, but I don't know how true that is.

And I think you're right, it's probably more tactical than strategic.

I should probably leave these kinds of posts to guys like you who know the marketing stuff better. I'm more the guy who builds the stuff to make it possible.

Are you talking about marketing or PR? And from a tactical or strategic perspective? This sounds like tactical advice.
