Photo: Blues Sky Crack; also, the Whole Enchillada

Today, we have yet another view in Antelope Canyon. I hope you guys like these because I have a hell of a lot more. It was definitely the highlight of the trip for me, photographically. This one was a little tricky, and involves combining two exposures to get that sky and the walls of the canyon but still look natural.

The Whole Enchillada

Also, I’ve gone ahead and uploaded a flash gallery of the best photos from the entire trip. If you want to see them one a day, skip this, as I’ll still be blogging them over the coming weeks. But if you want to make a run through them all and tell me what you think, here’s the gallery.

Sorry, this photo is a little late today. I’ve spent much of the day processing HDRs from the trip and generally going through the photos. Some of them aren’t too bad. I still have the Mesa Verde and Grand Canyon stuff processing by batch, but once I’ve looked through the entire trip, I’ll upload one big gallery so you can take a glance through the work.

This is a bit minimalist for me, I know, but I really liked the silhouettes from the sunset.

Another photo from Lower Antelope Canyon in Arizona. I’m still slacking on the post-processing on a bunch of the work from the trip. I’ll probably get that started today along with a dozen other tasks that need doing, like returning library books and accepting Escape Pod stories.

The sudden wave of depression from the weekend has mostly faded. It seems that throwing my self into Escape Pod submissions made me feel better. There’s a lesson there somewhere I guess.

Link Dump Posts, Begone!

Posted on:

I have turned off my link dump posts that turn up around once a day.  They’re basically made up of the random, mostly web design links that I come across in my feeds.  I don’t give them much in the way of context most of the time, and that limits their usefulness.  In an attempt to force myself to provide more useful and compelling content via this blog, I’m removing those posts.  I’m going to be narrowing down what I talk about here to primarily photography and writing/science fiction. I may even move photography discussion over to the web design blog that I’ll be starting when I can get around to it.

I give a lot of advice to my clients on how to build a good blog audience, but I don’t do a very good job of following my own advice.   I’m going to try and change that in the future.

Post-expedition ennui is overwhelming me today. Things turned complicated and sour at Sarah’s work while we were gone. I’ve had little success in my job search, and the need to do so grows ever more pressing as Sarah finds it harder and harder to deal with working in a field she never had any desire in which to work. She wants to be a teacher, and for that, we need to get her back into school. To do that, we need to get me a job with benefits.

I still have Mesa Verde photos to go through, but I haven’t had time to get them out of the camera and processed, so I’m going to backtrack a bit and show you more of Lower Antelope Canyon. Slot canyons are a very popular place for photographers to work. I don’t think on this first trip of mine that I shot anything really unique or original there. But it was a great learning experience to spend a few hours down there. I could photograph for two hours a day down there for a week and not explore every angle of interest.
