The lighting on this one is all wrong, but I think the composition isn’t too bad. It’s closer to my goal of getting a shot of one of these boys up on a cliff edge looking majestic and proud. Better still would be getting a shot of a couple butting heads, but I don’t think that’s likely right now.
I haven’t been reading much short fiction lately, but I am subscribed to the Fantasy Magazine feed. I saw the opening of this story and the words drew me in. I had to read it, even so early.
The men burned all the boats, so it is impossible to leave the island now. Everyone cheered when the pyres were lit. The dancing went on for three days, as if for a wedding. The men chanted, We are fearless! Let our enemies attack us now. We will slaughter them, and take their boats as war prizes. And if the sea folk come against us, we will crush them, too. Our magic is so strong we will pursue those cold ones under the waves, torches blazing. We will burn out their black eyes, tear their silver flesh to strips, and lick up their pale blood. We are mighty. We are invincible.

I am having a portfolio review done by a local wildlife/landscape pro on Monday. From what I have read, you pick your 20 best for these. So here’s what I have (Warning, Flash). If you think I’ve included work that’s weaker than what you ahve seen in this department from me, say so please. I want this to be as strong as I can make it without making expensive trips to Africa…
It was mostly landscapes today. Here’s one of them. I’m pretty pleased with it.
I also so a pretty haggard bunch of bighorn sheep. They were good practice, but not healthy enough I think to hit the portfolio. Also, the light was too direct–too late in the day. I’ll show some of the better ones later.

I chased a lot of rabbits around yesterday. I was hoping I could try taking some action shots of them running, but man, I have zero skills panning with a telephoto, especially on a ball head. I really need to practice that more often though. It’s one of those weak areas in my skillset.
This guy was relatively calm with me taking his picture. Even looked right at me, so I snapped this one off. I wouldn’t usually center a subject in the frame like this, but I liked it here for some reason.
