Ronald Chevalier: A Spot-On Parody of (some) SF Authors
Filed Under: Uncategorized
One half of the indie comedic rock duo The Flight of the Concords is the man behind Ronald Chevalier, author of such titles as Cyborg Harpies and Brain Cream. His new website is a bit of a blog along with samples of his work. Warning, the website talks. Kind of creepily too. But hilarious!
I think what cracks me up most about this is that I’ve heard so many authors at cons talk like this guy. Hell, I’m sure I’ve come off sounding like this too from time to time if I’m being honest. Jared Hess has done his research. Be sure to check out the Gallery and the bio page. Also note that he’s won a “Cluster Award.” My new life ambition is to also win a Cluster Award. It is clearly a prestigious and significant award in the field.
Not only is Chevalier a spot-on parody of authors themselves, his website is a fantastic parody of a lot of really bad SF author websites. The garish colors, the unnecessary sound… about the only thing right is that it’s built on WordPress.
The whole thing is reminiscent of Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place, which if you haven’t seen, is also pretty funny, if you go for that kind of weirdo british humor.

I LOVE Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, man! It’s very hard for me, as no Korean I’ve shown it to really got why it was funny. I’m alone in appreciating it here.
Will check out this site soon! Thanks!
