I notice that I use the winking smiley face most of the time when I use a smiley. To me, it implies tongue-in-cheek humor. But I have never WINKED at anyone in my life. When someone IMs or E-mails you with a winking smiley face, do you read that as them literally winking at you?
I am sure this question will be a dissertation for someone in a couple of years.
