I imag­ine these aren’t the same things as what I posted yes­ter­day, but they look pretty sim­i­lar to me. This was pho­tographed at the Chinese Gardens in down­town Portland.

    I posted yes­ter­day to the LJ side but maybe you didn’t see that.

    The Japanese ver­sion is shishi — the chi­nese is foo dog — but they are both Buddha tem­ple guardians (orig­i­nally) which began life from India depic­tions and who even­tu­ally trans­formed from dogs to lions because as sym­bols they were adopted by the wealthy. What you are look­ing at is a male foo dog. They pro­tect against negativity.
