There are ori­oles every­where out here. I had no idea. As a kid grow­ing up in Kansas, I read about them but they were not native to the area. I was always fas­ci­nated by their bas­ket nests that I saw in books. I’d seen the bas­ket nests in the trees this spring for the first time and sus­pected that they were made by ori­oles, but it took a park dis­play to prove to me.

The light­ing in this one isn’t per­fect, but I really liked the pose. And that bril­liant orage is such a lovely color. Taken about 20 min­utes after dawn.
